Dorothy Tsui is a freelance photographer who became a voluntary photographer of St James Creation about ten years ago. She completed the Higher Diploma in Fine Art from Hong Kong Art School. Her enthusiasm for photographing influenced by her father. In this exhibition, she selected a series of photos taken before the demolition of the old generation at So Uk Estate.
About So Uk Estate:
So Uk Estate located in a hillside area of Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The original estate was built on the site of squatter areas between 1955 – 1963. There were 16 buildings named after varieties of flowers.
The Hong Kong Housing Authority decided the redevelopment plan in 2008. A foundation “Farewell So Uk” was established as a historical archive for the Estate and document its history. The first phase of redevelopment started in 2015 and completed in 2016 and 2018. The second phase of reconstruction is expected to complete in 2018/2019.
The Estate was the home of many famous individuals during their youth in Hong Kong, for example, Sam Hui and his brothers, Wong Ka Kui and his brother in the band Beyond.
All photography works sold at the exhibition period will donate to St James Creation
